The Greek Cat Welfare

Greece and the surrounding islands have thousands stray, abandoned and feral cats, surviving of the scraps left by the tourists and locals. Calculations conclude that an average female produces three litters of four kittens annually (female kittens go on at the same rate) the result is about 5,000 cats from a single breeding female in four years.

Greek Cat Welfare works to to prevent the hardship of these cats, preventing starvation, helping those who have been poisoned, and to help reduce the population sizes with the Trap, neuter and return (TNR) scheme. This is a humane method of decreasing the stray cat population, carried out on a regular basis several times a year. they also rescue some of these cats with the aim to rehome them into loving care. All the while educating the locals to have their own pets neutered.
