Hedgehog Bottom rescue sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs, dealing with many problems on site but taking to vets or specialists if in need for example broken legs on the hedgehogs. As well as caring for the 20 plus hedgehogs at the centre they also provide foster carers for some of the healthy hedgehogs that just need overwintering and feeding. They then release all animals that are deemed capable of surviving in the wild. Finding release sites for animals that are compromised but capable of living a near normal existence in a protected area.
While this goes on they try to increase public awareness about the decline in hedgehogs, the hazards they face, assist in scientific and behavioural research and to encourage children to respect hedgehogs and take an interest in them.
