What we like about the product

The Cat Mate Pet Fountain arrived nicely packaged and it was really easy to set up ready for use. The plastic packaging that came with the fountain was minimal, which is always good to see.

The pump is really quiet and all you can hear is the trickle of the water. In fact, with the three different drinking levels, the Cat Mate is more of a waterfall than a fountain, but it does give your cat plenty of options.

You can easily change the water flow rate and topping up is easy as you can just add water straight into any of the fountain’s sections.

What we don’t like about the product

This is quite a big water fountain, which is good for having a higher water capacity, but it felt maybe a little over the top for one little cat! It’s a bit of an effort to properly clean the fountain and as it needs to be done regularly it can get a bit tedious, but it is machine washable so that option does make it easier if you have one.

The fountain needs filters to keep the water clear, clean and fresh so having a Cat Mate fountain means you will have to make sure you have a supply of new filters at the ready. This makes it much more costly than a normal water bowl.

The final verdict

Dave the cat is quite comfortable with the fountain and prefers to drink from the middle level, so it passes the cat test which is always a good sign! It’s a bit on the pricey side, with extra purchases needed even after buying the fountain, but it can encourage cats that are otherwise disinterested in their bowl to suddenly take interest in drinking water.

Dave

David, Little Dave, Dave or Dee Dee joined our family in 2014 when she was 2 years old and we were her third home. She is quite a reserved cat will sit on your lap when she is tired or cold but wouldn’t appreciate being carried about or cuddled. Dave enjoys nothing more than a tickle under the chin, chasing mice in the garden and sunbathing.
