Animal Friends Complete £1 Million Challenge

Animal Friends Pet Insurance

Animal Friends Insurance donates £1 million to animal welfare charities.

Early in 2010 Animal Friends Insurance set themselves a target of donating £1 million, to animal welfare before the end of 2012. They created the ‘Feel Good Factor’, a way of thinking, acting and helping animals around the world through charity and pet insurance. The aim was to work towards better welfare for all animals that have suffered from cruelty, neglect and suffering.

The grand total of £1 million was reached on the 8th November 2012 via the company’s various donation schemes that include grants for specific projects, one-off donations, an ‘Employee of the Month’ reward initiative and a ‘Charity of the Month’ voting competition on Facebook. Animal Friends Insurance have supported projects which help all types of animals and welfare charities; ranging from small local cat and dog homes to large internationally-established organisations that help critically endangered animals.

One UK charity which has benefited from donations from Animal Friends is Woodlands Animal Sanctuary who took part in the ‘Charity of the Month’ Facebook competition. Charities like Woodlands Animal Sanctuary keep going day by day with the shared belief that ‘Saving just one animal won’t make a difference to the world, but it will make a world of difference to that one animal’.

“Animal Friends’ support has been an inspiration. If other business leaders and corporations were half as committed, our job would be almost done,” commented David Shepherd, founder and head of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation; the organisation responsible for ‘TigerTime Now’, a high-profile campaign to help save the tiger that has support from celebrities and governments around the world.

With many pet owners struggling to make ends meet since the recession, some charities have seen over a 50% increase in abandoned animals; daily care and veterinary costs for rescued and abandoned animals are also consistently rising. Jacquie Wilson from the small UK-based charity, Rain Rescue, stated that “What Animal Friends has provided for us is amazing to us and will mean so much to our small rescue group. Thank you for helping the small ones who survive on so little money.”

Elaine Fairfax, Founder and MD of Animal Friends said “I am absolutely thrilled to have reached our £1 million target. We have been able to help so many really worthy causes, it’s been hugely rewarding for all of us. I know it’s changed the lives of many individual animals that have been saved from a life of despair. We won’t stop there though; we will continue to strive to support as many animal welfare charities as possible.”

The Million Pound Challenge shows an all-round commitment to animal welfare all around the world. The money donated is generated by the customers that take out insurance policies with Animal Friends. It means each new policy taken out not only protects customers pets but also helps support animal welfare, that’s why Animal Friends call it ‘Feel Good Insurance’.
