As the weather worsens and pets spend more time indoors you might be wondering what’s the best type of pet to have if you suffer from allergies. Unfortunately, pet allergies can develop at any stage in life. So, if you had a dog or a cat when you were younger you may have become allergic in the meantime. Other people don’t know they’re allergic until they welcome a pet into their home, which can cause some discomfort.
This is causing pet lovers who suffer from allergens to buy hypoallergenic pets, instead. While no cat or dog is truly hypoallergenic there are some breeds that are known to be the better options for allergy sufferers. After all, no one deserves to miss out from kitty cuddles and dog walks!
Dander, saliva, and other proteins latched onto our pet’s fur is the reason why some people suffer from pet allergens, so it makes sense that dogs and cats that shed less are a bit more hypoallergic than their shedding crazy pals!
So, if you suffer from pet allergies, what would be the best breed for you?
Poodles are loyal and clever dogs that hardly shed or drool. A perfect combination for those looking for an allergy-friendly dog. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours and could be a great addition to any family.
Another low-shedding, low-dander, low-slobber breed! Like all dogs, they do have grooming needs but they’re incredibly clever and can be great with kids, too.
Labradoodles are a cross between a Labrador and a poodle, a breed very popular for allergen sufferers. They’re affectionate and incredibly playful which makes them a perfect addition to a family household.
As Bengals don’t need to groom as much as other cats their fur will contain less of their saliva and other allergenic proteins and they hardly shed, making them the perfect candidate for those looking for the most hypoallergenic cat. Plus, they’re beautiful.
Cornish or Devon Rex
These cats only have one undercoat meaning that they shed a lot less than other breeds. This is brilliant news for anyone suffering from an allergy as they carry less dander. Yay!
