Lluest Horse and Pony Trust Rescue rehabilitation rehoming

Founded in 1985, Lluest Horse and Pony Trust is a small charity that rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes horses and ponies. Located near the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons, the charity cares for around 40 animals and has around 95 horses living in carefully vetted foster homes. Lluest’s aim is to integrate some of their wonderful animals into their plans for assisted therapy programmes for local groups of young people, students and volunteers.

We've donated £12,500!

From heartbreak to happiness…

Trooper, a Welsh Mountain Pony, was found starving and emaciated in a filthy shed. He was only found at all because a dog walker had discovered the body of another pony who had sadly starved to death nearby. Dung samples showed that Trooper had been eating nothing but his own faeces. At death’s door Trooper arrived at Lluest Horse and Pony Trust barely able to get off the trailer.

The vet’s assessment was he was so weak that he could die within the next 24 to 36 hours. Trooper was given a very deep bed to protect his protruding bones. Around the clock supervision with tiny feeds were given every half an hour, which included supplements and multivitamins to support his immune system and deliver vital nourishment to his failing organs.

As the hours turned into days the staff at the trust grew in awe of this amazing pony, who against the odds somehow found the strength and determination to live; this is how Trooper got his name. Seven months on sweet Trooper is a fabulously fit pony (see the picture at top of the post) and ready to find his new, loving, forever home.

Trooper embodies the true ethos and spirit of our small charity, Lluest Horse and Pony Trust; in the face of adversity there is nothing wrong with hope. Although we are only a tiny charity we work with a huge number of horses and ponies who are victims of neglect and abuse, rescuing ponies daily from misery, despair and often death. We then work with them gently helping them recover their strength, confidence and trust in humans until they are ready, in time, to find new loving carers in our thoroughly vetted new homes.

We rely on donations to continue our work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses and ponies who have been the victim of neglect and abuse. With your support we can – and will – continue to rescue and help ponies in terrible trouble – like Trooper.

As with many small charities we are struggling in this economic climate as the number of abandoned ponies rises, while donations fall. We (the staff, volunteers and rescued horses and ponies) are deeply grateful to our supporters for helping us continue our vital work.
