Happy Cat Month! That’s right, September is the month to celebrate all things feline, and how to make sure your cat is happy and healthy. Cats are often seen as independent and aloof creatures and it’s sometimes forgotten that they need the same amount of care as their canine counterparts.
So, here are five ways to make sure your cat is happy all year round.
Give them space
Did you know cats can sleep for up to 20 hours a day? So, it’s important to try and give them a cosy space that’s far from the busy bustle of everyday life. They might decide to use the living room window ledge as a bed or take a nap on the TV unit from time to time but at least they can retreat to their own space if they need to.
Provide some entertainment
From buying a window bird feeder so your cat can watch during the day, or simply get some cat toys so you can join in on playtime, too. You’ll soon find your cat’s favourite and you’ll love spending quality time together.
Stock up on cardboard boxes
Whatever you get delivered, if it comes in a cardboard box then keep it for your kitty. They love the security a box offers so bring one out to play every so often so they can practice their skills in hide-and-seek.
Don’t forget to groom
While some cats will despise someone even touching their fur, let alone being stroked by a brush, other cats love nothing more than a good groom. So, why not treat your cat to a pampering session?
Let them climb
Cats love to get high and look down at us peasant folk, so why not invest in a cat tower? Or, if you can, create a climbing wall with all sorts of different vantage points for them to perch on. They will love it!
And that’s it, five simple ways to keep these seemingly complex creatures content. How do you keep your cat happy and are you doing anything special to celebrate Happy Cat Month? Let us know on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
