Blue Cross

Blue Cross is there for animals and the people who love them - rescuing, rehoming, healing, comforting.

Creating better lives for animals

As part of our mission to create better lives for animals, we’re incredibly proud to have an ongoing relationship with the Blue Cross, one of the UK’s most respected and influential animal welfare organisations. We share their values of compassion, courage, and inclusivity, making them a natural and powerful ally in our mission.

For more than a century, Blue Cross has been there for animals and their people. They step in when a pet has nowhere else to go, and they stay when a family is grieving the loss of a beloved companion. Their compassion is unwavering, their courage unmistakable, and their inclusivity a beacon for pet lovers across the UK.

And just like us, they believe that helping to protect animals means influencing the world around them. Their Policy Team is deeply embedded in government affairs, shaping conversations at the highest levels and fighting for stronger protections for pets nationwide. Together, we can amplify that voice further than ever before.

Creating change through supporting vital initiatives

For more than 28 years, Animal Friends has been driven by a simple mission: creating better lives for animals.

Our relationship with Blue Cross is about more than simply funding —it’s a shared promise to help protect animals, support pet owners, and look to influence positive change.

Our friendship with Blue Cross has given us the opportunity to work together on a number of vital services, including;

Home Direct

We help support Blue Cross’ horse offsite services including their Home Direct scheme; an admission and adoption scheme that helps you find the right home for your horse.

People often feel judged when needing to find their horse a new home, and the reasons for rehoming can be wide reaching. We know how important it is to secure your horse’s future so this is where the Blue Cross can help, no matter the reason for rehoming. Home Direct brings a peace of mind and knowledge that you’ve done the best you can for your horse’s welfare.

Long term support

The funding received from Animal Friends enables Blue Cross to maintain a range of rehoming pathways, including foster placements, direct rehoming from current owners and monitored loan arrangements through its Horse Borrower scheme.

Alongside finding suitable new homes, Blue Cross provides ongoing guidance, welfare checks and support to adopters and borrowers, helping to secure positive long-term outcomes for horses and ponies. This work ensures high welfare standards are maintained while reducing the number of horses at risk of neglect or an uncertain future.

Making positive steps forward for the future

Together, we’re building a movement rooted in empathy and action. We’re strengthening our voice in government. We’re creating campaigns that inspire. And we’re offering our customers something they can feel proud to be part of.

Because when you choose Animal Friends, you’re choosing hope. You’re choosing impact. You’re looking to a future where animals are seen, loved, and given the chance to live a happy and healthy life.

For customers who want their choices to matter, policies & purpose in action; built to create better lives for animals.
