With research finding that sleeping next to a pooch is better for you than sharing a bed with a fellow human, and studies proving that dog owners are happier than those without pets, it comes as no surprise that people want to spoil their canine companions on Valentine’s. If this sounds like you, you might be looking for something to give to or do with your dog this February.
We have some ideas for you, some which won’t cost a penny as you know what they say: the best things in life are free.
Enjoy dinner together
In best Valentine’s Day tradition, why not find the perfect place for your pooch and you with this dog-friendly restaurant finder – it’s even got a map view!
But if the local go-to Valentine’s restaurant doesn’t allow dogs to celebrate the day with a meal with their owners, this is something you can do at home. Cook up your favourite meal and prep some pup-friendly treats that you can enjoy together.
Have a play date
Why not invite some friends who own a pooch or two round for a play date? While you and your friend catch up, your dogs can enjoy some quality time together, too.
Wash your dog’s bedding
We all know how amazing a clean bed feels, once we’ve eventually gotten around to changing it, so imagine how nice it is for our canine friends. Their bedding should be cleaned regularly anyway but could make a perfect Valentine’s treat.
Go shopping together
Why not head out to the shops together? Whether it’s to indulge in some window shopping in your favourite town or head to your local pet shop to let your dog pick a toy, it’s a great excuse to spend some quality time together.
When you get home, you can play together with their new chosen toy.
Have a night in
Instead of heading out to the cinema, a long walk on the beach, or a romantic meal with your Valentine, why not stay in with your pooch instead? Watch your favourite doggy film and curl up on the sofa next to your best friend.
Enjoy their favourite walk
If your dog has a favourite field or forest, head outdoors and treat them to a long adventure in their chosen element. A walk has some fantastic benefits for both you and your pooch while providing a fantastic bonding opportunity.
