Employee of the Quarter

Here at Animal Friends we love to help as many charities as we can. Along with our bimonthly charity competition, we also run an Employee of the quarter scheme where a cash amount is donated to the winning Employees charity of choice. Being such animal lovers, we love to get to know more about these chosen charities and find out how the donation has helped!

Meet Doug

Doug has been working at Animal friends for a great many years. Doug is always prepared to go above and beyond, and is considered a real asset to the AFI team. Doug will often be found working past his finish time to help out with extra jobs outside of his normal duties, he is always friendly and is well known for his cheerful disposition. These are a few of the reasons why Doug won employee of the quarter and was given £3,000 to donate to a charity of his choice. Doug chose for his donation to be made to Border Collie Trust GB. Doug told us that, for as long as he can remember his family always had Collies. He has many fond memories of them growing up and felt that this is where he wanted his donation to go, as he felt that they had given him so much as a child.

Border Collie Trust GB

Border Collie Trust came about in 1976 when Hazel Monk with the support of the “Border Collie Club of Great Britain” formed “Border Collie Rescue”. Border Collie Trust is run by volunteers and is funded by donation, they re-home collies from all over the country. The Trust tries to place each dog in a suitable permanent home. There are no time limits and some dogs wait many months for a suitable home. They have many rescues throughout the UK and Ireland and receive calls to help most weeks, along with the calls the receive every day from individual owners who need help in re-homing their dog.

Border Collie Trust told us that Doug’s generous donation has mainly gone towards enrichment ideas, “This can be items of equipment to supplement that we already have (see photos) or even things like raw hide chews,  stag bars etc which all help keep the dogs entertained”

It is a horrible thought that through no fault of their own that these lovely dogs can end up in kennels. We are so glad to see that charities such as Border Collie Trust GB who with love, support and expert advice are able to help find these lovable dogs new suitable homes. We are pleased that the donation given has been used to help make the time that they in kennels a little more enriched whilst they are waiting for their forever homes.

A big congratulations to Doug for winning Employee of the quarter. We have loved finding out how his donation is made an actual difference to Border Collie Trust GB. We cant wait to see who wins the next employee of the quarter and the good it will go towards! Any staff that you think have been particularity helpful or gone above and beyond let us know! We love to hear about your good experiences with our Animal Friends Team!
