The Celia Hammond Animal Trust was created after one of the top models in the 60’s Celia Hammond witnessed a cruel seal hunt. She realised that she could use her career and status as a platform to really make a difference to animal welfare.
The charity began trapping, rescuing, neutering and rehoming stray and unwanted cats at a time when euthanasia was considered the only option. It led by example and changed the general perception that feral cats were practically vermin, showing that they were animals worthy of humane treatment.
The charity has a sanctuary for the many cats that could not be returned to their own environment.
