Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue (TGLR) offers a home to up to 100 greyhounds at any one time. Half of the dogs are brought in by their caring owners/trainers, the other half are strays. The charity is not necessarily anti-racing, just against the way the industry disregards the greyhounds’ welfare. Once a greyhound comes into TGLR’s care, then a new home will be found for them, those that are too old or have severe behavioural issues will usually spend the rest of their days living happily and comfortably with the charity.
Like many other animal welfare chairities, TGLR operates with a no-kill policy meaning that no greyhound is put to sleep unless they are ill and/or severely suffering. The charity is staffed by a large number of volunteers who give up their time to help whenever they can. Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue is entirely funded by donations from the public and they have ten charity shops that also help to raise some funds.
